To help ensure the continued usefulness and clarity of LCARs as a resource it is extremely important that all users use articles in the correct manner when contributing information.

Character Article

A character article' is an article about a player character or non player character of specific importance in our universe. It is not expected that LCARs will be used as a repository for every character created - we already have SIMulation websites and the UCIP database for this purpose.

Characters requiring articles may be important NPCs on a SIM, perhaps central characters in the development of a particular plot. Most characters requiring articles will have extensive background details available or be linked from several other articles because of their importance.

Please do not create character articles for each of your characters or for every NPC on your SIM - use other locations for this information as it will clutter LCARs and make it less helpful to other members

What is the purpose of this article type?

A character article is designed to provide in depth background on a particular character, either because they are historically important because of the events they were involved with or are important NPCs that others should know about.

Generally an article will comprise of two sections, one of biography and one of OOC information. More important characters may also have other sections such as a personal timeline.

What information should not be included?

  • The biography should be from an in character point of view so for player character articles references to the OOC UCIP should be avoided.
  • Articles should not be based upon characters that have no significant background or IC userfulness.

Technology Article

Starship Article

A starship article is an article about a specific starship or space craft which is a part of the UCIP Star Trek Universe. Each ship based SIM and important NPC starship within out Universe should have a starship article maintained for it.

What is the purpose of this article type?

The starship article is designed to provide a range of information on a specific starship or space craft that is a part of the IC Universe. It should chart the history of that space craft, its class, its registry, its bridge plaque dedication, any specific technological information and any other information specific to that ship.

Naming the article/page

Naming the article for a specific starship is important because names are re-used over time, the best example being the USS Enterprise. A link to just USS Enterprise would likely provide an article on the history of that name. For a specific ship you would want to include the registry in some form.

Example:
USS Enterprise (NCC-1701)
USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-A)

What information should be included?

  • Image (if available)
  • Starship name
  • Starship class
  • Starship type
  • Year launched (and year decommissioned/destroyed, if applicable)
  • Current status
  • Article contributor
  • Bridge dedication
  • History of the ship
  • Any unique technological changes specific to that ship
  • Any unique layout changes specific to that ship
  • Any additional or OOC information.

What information should not be included?

  • Details of any readily variable information that would be more appropriately located on a SIM's website.
  • Any technological information that is not specific to this ship. (Class wide technical details should be provided in the relevant Starship Class article and a link should be provided to this.
  • Any layout information that is not specific to this ship. (Class wide layout details should be provided in the relevant Starship Class article and a link should be provided to this.

Starship Class Article

A starship class article is an article providing information on a specific class of starships (or on an important variant of another class). It is important that all approved UCIP classes are added to LCARs as well as those canon classes that are important to our Star Trek Universe.

What is the purpose of this article type?

The starship class article is designed to provide technological and background information on a starship class, including what that class can be used for and the range of technology and equipment available to it. Starship class articles should be the baseline technology that all PC and NPC starships are built up from.

Naming the article/page

The name of the article or page is important as that is how pages are linked in a wiki. To avoid confusion between a class of ship and the first ship of the class, all class pages should be named like "Sovereign class", rather than just "Sovereign".

This also provides at a glance classification for what the page is when viewing it in a list or when a page does not already exist, an individual wanting to create it knows it is meant to be for the starship class.

Example: Sovereign class vs Sovereign (as in the first ship of the class)

What information should be included?

  • Image (if available)
  • Class name
  • Class type
  • Class role
  • Years produced
  • Affiliation
  • TechStatus
  • Class background and history
  • Standard technological arrangement
  • Standard deck arrangement
  • Detailed information of class capabilities and technology
  • Any additional or OOC information.

What information should not be included?

  • Details specific to any one starship rather than the starship class.
  • Detail technological information for specific pieces of technology rather than how that technology relates to the starship class (Individual pieces of technology should be added to LCARs in a technology article and an appropriate link should be added).
