Luna, or the moon, is a small moon that orbits around Earth, in the Sol System in Sector 001. Luna is the Earth's only natural satellite.

  • Name(s): Luna/The Moon (the latter is usually used by Terrans in reference to their own moon)

Historical

In the 20th century, the moon was visited 9 times by explorers from Earth. Of those 9 times, 6 of them resulted in moon landings.

  • Apollo 8 - Orbited the moon, testing the Command/Service modules
  • Apollo 10 - Orbited the moon, testing the lunar excursion module
  • Apollo 12 - Landed on the moon, mission successful
  • Apollo 13 - Orbited the moon, mission aborted due to onboard explosion that crippled the vessel; marked the only time in manned spaceflight where a mission was titled and numbered using the number 13 (none before and none since)
  • Apollo 14 - Landed on the moon, mission successful
  • Apollo 15 - Landed on the moon, mission successful
  • Apollo 16 - Landed on the moon, mission successful
  • Apollo 17 - Landed on the moon, mission successful; this would be the final manned moon landing

Geographical

The moon has many cities, containing a vast population. According to then-Commander Riker, in 2374, there were an estimated 50 million people living in the various cities and colonies on the moon.
