|Rochelle Andreevna Ivanova|
December 25, 2387 (age: 32)
|[ Source ]|
Commodore Rochelle Andreevna Ivanova is the current Commanding Officer of the USS Vindicator. A fierce and strong woman and the former Executive and Chief Tactical Officer of the USS Griffin, she brings to the table an extensive background in all things Tactical and Strategy. Many find her coarse and cynical nature to be abrupt and choose to please rather than cross. Rochelle's foreboding presence plays a quintessential role in keeping the science and exploration based USS Vindicator constantly ready to do battle, much to the chagrin of Star Fleet. It's her background and devoted affinity to the art of war that often puts her at odds with the diplomatic-scientific based attitude of her best friend and former Captain of the USS Griffin, Commodore Andrea Levine and perfectly couples and closes the ranks of the Vindicator with enough spice to keep the crew on their toes and enough suave base to keep them sane.

Standing only 5'4", Ivanova is best noted for her red hair and bright blue eyes. Without foundation covering them, the bridge of her nose and cheeks are littered with a dusting of freckles that completely give away the Scotch-Irish half of her heritage. While sporting a toned and athletic body-type, she still maintains a feminine figure coupled with an inseam longer than most people of her small stature.
While on duty her hair is usually pulled back in a French twist.
Right Wrist; blue biological mark of Atlantean pair-bonding.
-- amendment 241412.24; Her bond to Captain William Taggart was broken and a new bond was set to Captain Landon Neyes. A new wine colored mark can be found behind her left ear, barely visible even when her hair is pulled back. She has hidden the new pair bonding by generating a mirror image of the blue mark back on its original spot on her wrist.
-- amendment; mirror mark is no longer worn.
Back/Shoulder Blades- 241107.27 - Series of scars over and between shoulder blades, focused mainly in the center of the upper back obtained during the terror attack on SB Whydah, Ivanova refused to allow dermal repair. -- amendment 241408.22; Full body dermal repair completed while Captain Ivanova was being resuscitated following rescue from Notura. Scars no longer present.
Born 238712.25 in St Petersburg to former Starfleet Captain, Susan Andreevna Ivanova, and Commander Marcus Cole, a former Medical Officer who left the family unit shortly before Ivanova's birth. There was no way other than the Starfleet way in the Ivanova household and when her mother tragically passed away in 2399, Rochelle was sent to live with her aunt who did little more than send the rambunctious pre-teenager to a boarding school that acted as a Junior Officer's Training Camp for Starfleet. While breaking the young girl's heart, it was right up Rochelle's alley. Five years later, after finishing high school, she took the offer of a life time and set off to the Starfleet Academy where she chose to specialize in all things Tactical, much like her mother, and rose up to graduate as a brilliant military mind and fearless pilot heavily sought after by several commands.
Rochelle has yet to reconcile with her father who was absent throughout most of her childhood due to his inability to cope with Susan's successful career when his own was a self-deemed failure. Having been a Medical Officer, but never filling a Command capacity position in the forty-two years he served Starfleet, his bitterness is exemplary and self-serving. He does, however, know that his daughter has risen through the ranks as one of Starfleet's most talented and promising young officers. His quiet pride at his daughter having been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander and serving, twice, as the Executive Officer aboard the USS-Griffin by the tender age of 22, is well worn.-- amendment; 241503.01
While being held on Atlantis Prime, Rochelle was informed of the identify of her true father; Admiral Alexander Hark, and the story behind why her mother concealed such knowledge from both of them. With many thanks to her cousin, Fleet Admiral Blyx Red, for finally sharing perhaps the biggest skeleton in the Ivanova/Red family history, the two have forged the beginning of a father/daughter bond as well as continued working on a professional basis. Each have found the news to be a sigh of relief given how involved Hark had been in influencing her young career.
Disappearance of USS SIRENIAN
on 239907.04 the USS Sirenian, an exploration/war vessel commanded by Captain Susan Andreevna Ivanova, was declared missing after it failed to showed up for a scheduled maintenance and partial refitting at Eden Shipyards. Search and rescue teams failed to turn up any trace of the ship including an ion trail. The entire crew compliment of 1200 was declared missing and presumed dead on 240001.12.
Return to the USS GRIFFIN
Ivanova originally left the USS Griffin -G and resigned from her post as Executive Officer due to continued sexual harassment and conduct unbecoming stemming from the Captain she served beneath. She was then assigned a Tactical/Security detail on SB 371. It wasn't until shortly after the court martial, and subsequent removal of Captain James House, Rochelle was approached by Starfleet to leave her desk job and take up the reins aboard the USS Griffin-H as their Executive Officer under then Captain Andrea Levine.
After the USS GRIFFIN-H was decommissioned, Ivanova was transferred to the USS Vindicator as their Executive Officer under the first command of Captain Landon Neyes. It was her fire and perseverance that complimented the fresh Captain's calm stoic nature perfectly, allowing the great ship to rise to star status once again.
During a routine first contact mission to Notura, Ivanova was kidnapped and held hostage. Her rescue resulted in the death of Captain Neyes and subsequent promotion of Ivanova as the ship's Commanding Officer.
Ivanova's number one secret is the fact that she is a latent telepath but has never explored or used her skills. She has never reported to anyone about her abilities out of fear of what may come in the future if and when telepaths are considered a security risk to Starfleet or the Alliance as a whole. The only other person who knows of her abilities is Captain William Taggart who, as a well developed telepath, discovered her talent and has kept her secret safe.
Captain James House
Shortly after originally being assigned to the USS Griffin-G as their Chief Tactical Officer, it became apparent that Captain James House had taken a fancy to the fresh from the academy Rochelle Ivanova. The one sided romance, on his behalf, was doomed straight from the beginning. His obsession would nearly kill them both as she rose from Tactical Officer to his Executive Officer under much speculation that the promotion was based more on her sex appeal rather than her abilities as an officer. Ultimately his inability to cope with the fact that Ivanova was being courted by, and accepting the courtship of, his Chief Security Officer lead to a complete break down, his dismissal, and her resignation from the ship as she waited to stand as a witness in his court martial.
During the first trial of the newly constructed USS Griffin-H, the crew encountered a new and inhospitable race hidden behind the "Shatter Zone." At first all seemed fine and dandy until at a dinner function the true intention of the Orzhov Prince became known; he intended to take Ivanova as his wife. Feeling the need to defend his lover, Captain William Taggart engaged in battle with the Orzhov Prince, much to the chagrin of Captain Levine. Luckily before a to the death stand off between Captain Taggart and the Prince could ensue, another race called the Eldar appeared and rescued the crew, including Admiral Enor, from the clutches of the Orzhov race and returned them all to their ship.
Captain William Taggart
Her relationship with Captain Taggart was one of outside speculation and well concealed from prying eyes. Their romance started off a bit tumultuous and, due to repeated harassment by Captain House, ultimately lead to her leaving not only the USS Griffin-G, but her suitor as well. Once reunited with her old flame the romance rekindled with more then just a little hesitation on her behalf. She now bears a blue biological mark representing her bonding to an Atlantean. The mark appeared on her wrist seemingly over night and without any warning or choice. Prior to the death of Captain Neyes, the mark was concealed at all times by a leather bracelet. The only way to remove it is for Ivanova to break the bond by taking another lover.
Many members of the Griffin crew speculated their relationship although outwardly there was never any concrete evidence to support such claims until they announced their engagement. The relationship ended shortly before the decommissioning of the USS Griffin-H for reasons unknown.
Due to their bond, Ivanova is now the first and only human blooded Queen of the Atlantean people even if she's considered "divorced" by Starfleet standards.
Captain Landon Neyes
Though forbidden by moral conventionality, being that the pair shared the bond of CO/XO as they served on the Vindicator, there was no denying the attraction between the dynamic duo. During an incident on the planet Notura, in which a then Commander Ivanova was kidnapped, Captain Neyes risked everything, including his career, to take it upon himself to rescue her from her captors. It was during that mission that the two admitted their love for one another, though it would come as too little too late. Tragically, as a result of the rescue, Captain Neyes passed away in the care of the Trill Symbiosis Commission, his symbiont transferred to his younger sibling; Lt. Commander Tristan Neyes, leaving Ivanova to succeed him as Commanding Officer of the USS Vindicator as per the decision and orders of Admiral Kerry Malone.
On 241410.27, several months after his own funeral, Captain Landon Neyes was recovered from the wreckage of a Romulan D'deridex vessel that was destroyed during battle against the USS Vindicator-E inside Klingon space. Hidden from Captain Ivanova, Neyes was subject to rigorous testing, both physical and emotional, by select Vindicator team members - including his brother, Tristan and esteemed psychologist Commander Logan Grant. The results left little doubt that the man they'd recovered was, indeed, Captain Landon Neyes - leaving speculation that the man that had died was likely a well conducted clone created by the Romulans in an ill-fated attempt at obtaining a strong hold within Starfleet. He would reveal himself to Ivanova on 241412.09, during a ship-wide masquerade style ball, celebrating the end of the autumn season. Their undeniable chemistry was only set in concrete, the two becoming nearly inseparable in the process.
The mark on Ivanova's inner left wrist would disappear on the evening of 241501.06, following an evening spent in the company of Captain Neyes, only to reappear behind her left ear. Captain Neyes was seen to bear the exact same marking in the exact same location erasing all speculation of the pair's involvement with one another to those who know them best. Sadly it would also mark one of their last moments together before the Trill Symbiosis Commission became a threat to both Neyes brothers, seeking to erase the evidence of a cloned symbiont along with the rest of the Neyes line. On 241503.07, Commander James Archer would provide the get away shortly before the USS VINDICATOR-E slipped through the newly reopened wormhole to the Alpha Centius galaxy, leaving Ivanova to deal with the Atlantean people without the aid of two of her most trusted advisers. It would also be the day that, knowing that he needed to make his position known and understood, that Captain Neyes proposed via holographic message left in Ivanova's quarters. It wouldn't be the last time that the pair saw one another.
After a strange series of events, not unlike a lucid dream, Captain Neyes and his brother beat a hasty retreat to Cold Station Theta in search of the USS VINDICATOR-E, and Ivanova in particular. His arrival on 241504.23 would mark another change in their lives, altering it forever as he rejoined Ivanova and took up his position aboard the USS VINDICATOR-E once again. The explanation for the end of the Symbiosis Commission's hunt; the interference of a member of the Q Continuum. The extent of such a change wouldn't be known or felt until the ship reached the Stenellian Ascendancy home world of Apsha on 241507.28, when Lieutenant Commander Rotek broke the news that Ivanova was unexpectedly expecting her first child. It wouldn't be until 241509.10 that Ivanova finally chose to share the news with an overjoyed Captain Neyes.
The child would be the odds, surviving through gestation in spite of the USS VINDICATOR-E being destroyed mid-battle against eerie'Ssiebb Vrith tr'Bak. On 241605.31, just shortly after midnight, Javaan Irelle was brought into the universe a perfect 7lbs 8oz after deciding to enter life a fashionable two weeks late. His birth would come shortly before the launch of the USS Vindicator-F. He was welcomed by proud parents, his uncle, and the Vindicator's new Chief Medical Officer; Lieutenant Caleb Ch'Valenvok. It would only be three short months later, on 241608.10 that Rochelle would wed Captain Neyes in a quick ceremony aboard the USS VINDICATOR-F, forever honoring the undeniable, and hard worn, bond between them.
That union would come to an end in November of 2417 with Captain Neyes being relieved of his duty having found to be using drugs. It's presumed that the drug use played a heavy role in the crash of a shuttle onto an unknown M-Class planet, violation of the Prime Directive, and the loss of a fellow crew member and officer. Choosing to get him help rather then hold him back, Ivanova sought and was granted a quick, one signature divorce given the circumstances surrounding the termination of their union.
Art of War
An avid student of all things tactical, Capt Ivanova began to study historical forms of hand to hand combat at the tender age of seven when she was enrolled in her first Tae Kwon Do class. Finding the art to be a wee bit boring as she aged she turned her attention to various forms of hand to hand combat forms such as Wing Chun, Muai Thai, her favorite: the native Russian art; Systema SpetsNaz and even the Israeli defense art; Krav Maga. While some may find it odd, Rochelle took it within herself to study Yoga and Tai Chi as well -- her philosophy that without a strong mind one simply can't have a strong body. It's that philosophy that has seen her endure and succeed over countless impossible situations. She also firmly believes that using and combining and understanding the philosophies of several fighting and defense forms gives you the advantage regardless of size or stature.
It's these philosophies of hand to hand combat that have further empowered her drive and skill when it comes to large scale tactical warfare between ships and fighters.
Always with her eyes on the stars, Capt Ivanova's keen interest in aviation was evident at a young age. Where most young girls would be playing with dolls and toy horses, Rochelle found pleasure with toy aircraft of all forms. Her particular interest resides not within modern machinery but in antique and ancient flying machines from the era of the Kitty Hawk to the creation of the Lockheed S.R.71 Blackbird. Through studying and hunting over the years she's even managed to come across and obtain original Da Vinci flying machine sketches which are kept stowed away at her home on Earth in a pressurized case to keep them from falling completely apart, but they are not her only artifacts of old-world aviation. From various bone yards and collectors over the years she's formed quite a collection of various bits and pieces of metalwork, uniforms, and even engineering texts as well as old reel footage of WWII dog fights.
History repeats itself, is the motto of many including Capt Ivanova who firmly believes that by looking into the past you can tell the future. Her appreciation for ancient civilizations has proven worthy in recent times as she's served aboard the USS Griffin and come face to face with several new cultures. In private she's taken the time to categorize and compare them with ancient Earth civilizations such as the Maya, Inca, Egyptians, Syrians, Aztec, Romans, and even cultures of the Neolithic period which emphasis on the Druids and Celts. Most of her studies have been done in private and kept personal. Her newest interest is in the Atlantean culture due to her relationship with Captain William Taggart, an Atlantean Prince.
An avid equestrian, Ivanova has been trained to ride since she was a young child. She's an accomplished horsewoman having studied and ridden several different disciplines including dressage, jumping, huntseat, western pleasure, cutting and reining. She's most at home riding the trails and open deserts of the American southwest and has not ridden at show since her late teens.
