The Triad Conflicts is an ongoing armed conflict in the Alpha & Beta Quadrant between the forces of the United Federation of Planets Starfleet and the Tholian Assembly.

The origins of the conflict could be traced to the Battle for Ietia Prime, which at the time was in the mist of a civil war. In 2412 the Starfleet Marine Corps was brought to the planet to combat the rebels. Following the attack on Earth and the involment of the Romulan Star Empire the reclassified from the Second Federation-Tholian War to The Triad Conflicts

History

Late 2412

"I authorize Starfleet to use any means necessary to protect it's people and Ietian's. If the Tholian's charge weapons and target any civilian vessel, Starfleet may open fire first to protect it."
    — The President of the Federation orders

During the early year of 2412, the Ietia Government became involved in a civil war with members of it own people, however at first the United Federation of Planets and Starfleet kept out of the conflict since it was an internal matter. The the main cause for the rebels fighting against the legitimate government of the Ietian Assembly, was that they considered the Federation as invader in their home system.

But that changed when the Commander of Marine Operations, General Richard Sharpe ordered the 92nd Marine Expeditionary Unit to the Montara system as a peacekeeping force. Their orders were to restore order between the Ietian Government and the colonist.

However, according to Starfleet Intelligence reports on Stardate 241207.22, the Tholian Assembly began to supply and support the rebels.

On SD 241207.29, the Federation President held a press conference informing the Federation and it allies on the situation, the meeting was also attended by then-Director of Starfleet Diplomatic Corps, Vice Admiral Jack Drayson.

Yet, the Tholian Ambassador to the Federation would express outrage when Admiral Kerry Malone was appointed as the Commander of Starfleet. The Ambassador blankly informed Drayson that the Assembly would become involved in an internal matter.

On the same day that he was appointed to his position, Admiral Malone ordered Captain Cooper Williams of the USS Atlantia to the Montara system to enforce and protect the civilian space-lanes while also assisting Ietian government forces, when needed.

A month after arriving on the planet, the 92nd MEU was gone with personnel missing, captured and killed. The entire command staff had been killed when a bomb had destroyed the command tent. With over five colony worlds lost, the RAF had been pushed back to the spaceport and confined their during the battle. With Colonel Marsh dead, he remaining soldiers were absorbed into the RAF, but that did not seem to do any good as Major General Kyle Philips only seem to be able to send out small scout teams. During this time the Government of Ietia had informed the General that the Rebels had captured the loyalists armor depot, in tact, with vehicles and all. Before his death by sniper, General Philip was able to send a message to Starfleet Command informing them of the situation. After that contact was lost with all command staff of the RAF.

On SD 241208.31, Admiral Malone ordered the Commandant of the Marine Corps to inform General Sharpe that he was ordering the Fifth Marine Expeditionary Unit to the system and the Colonel Adam Towers would be taking command of the situation. During this time it was learnt that Commander Tucker Hill of the Starfleet Joint Special Operations Command had taken command of the remaining marines on the planet.

However, the greatest moment during the battle happened on SD 241209.01 when the USS Atlantia engaged a Tholian cruiser and two scout ships, according to the Atlantia senors the Tholian's fired the first shot that cause the small battle in the system. During a meeting between the President, Admirals Malone and Drayson the order was given for Starfleet to protect itself and the Federation.

At that moment the Federation had unofficial entered a war with the Tholian Assembly, however only the Federation Council can made a declaration. He also gave the order for Admiral Malone to send re-enforcement to Captain Williams to protect the Montara system and the Federation assets.

On SD 241210.05 USS Ben Sisko was on patrol along the Tholian border when it was suddenly attacked by fifteen Tholian attack cruisers, it has been assumed destroyed with all hands. This event would lead the Federation Council into declaration of war upon the Tholian Assembly by the United Federation of Planets.

Not long after the declaration of War, the Andorian Embassy located on Earth was bombed, which killed several prominent diplomatic and Starfleet Officer including the First Lieutenant Chloe Sharpe, wife to General Richard Sharpe. A few days later, the Tholian Embassy was destroy which killed the Tholian Ambassador, a majority of his staff and at least 23 members of the Starfleet Diplomatic Protection.

On December 23rd, Admiral Malone appointed General Sharpe to the Starfleet Central Command (SFCENTCOMM) as the Theatre Commander.

In January, reports started to flood the Federation with regards to the Invasion of the Cestus Sector. Following the Battle of Ietia Prime, Pursuant to JAG Instruction 5830.1A, at the request of the Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Armed Services, a Board of Inquiry had been appointed for the battle.

After a careful consideration it was decided that the board would be open to the public so that it didn't appear that Starfleet was hiding anything. The President of the Board was be Commodore Mok. Mok would be assisted by Lieutenant Colonel Walter Dixon, Commander Suval, Lieutenant Commanders Kimberly Watson and Alexander Hill; with Lieutenant Commander Richard Davis as the counsel for the board.

The scope of the board was to determine whether culpability charges against command officers were advise since it seems that from the start the mission was a failure with the death toll standing at over 3300 Marines. The following officers were the subject of the inquiry: Admiral Kerry Malone, Commander in Chief of Starfleet; Vice Admiral Jack Drayson, Chief of Staff of Starfleet; General Alexander Steele, Commandant of the Marine Corps; General Richard Sharpe, former Marine Operation Commander; Vice Admiral Chris Douglas, Chief of Starfleet Intelligence; Commodore Kassandra Denterius, Task Force 1.1 Commanding Officer; Captain Cooper Williams, Commander of the USS Atlantia, Colonel Adam Towers, Commander of the Fifth Marine Expeditionary Unit; and Commander Tucker Hill of JSOC.

During this period there were also reports of the Romulan Star Empire wanting to enter talks with the Federation after the Romulan Commonwealth was created under the protection of the Tholian Assembly due to the fallout from the Romulan Civil War of 2412.

In June of 2413, General Sharpe ordered Brigadier General Nikkos Tyris and Acting Brigadier Adam Towers to prepare a mission free the planet of Nasat. During the Battle for Nasat, word would reach Starfleet Central Command that Earth was under attack by the Triad.
